Improvements to begin on the open space trail surrounding UNM’s North Golf Course: UNM Newsroom

    The North Course

The North Course built in 1942, originally 27 holes, was the first course in America to break the 7000 yard barrier. It measured 7300 yards from the Championship tees and played host to the first professional tournament in Albuquerque in 1947 won by Lloyd Mangrum and to the NCAA Championships in 1950 won by Fred Wampler. The North Course also hosted the 1953 International Jaycee Junior Championship won by Al Geiberger.

Arnold Palmer, JoAnn Carner, Johnny Miller, Kermit Zarley, and Babe Didrickson Zaharias are just a few of the well known people who played the course.

The present 9-hole course measures 3333 yards. The beauty and difficulty of the old has been maintained and is now enhanced by the maturity of the many trees lining the narrow fairways.

Coined by our customers as, “Albuquerque’s hidden gem”, named so for being tucked away on the north side of campus and awesome golf course and condition.
